Published in Paperback by National Council of Teachers of English (September, 1996)
Authors: Lester L. Laminack, Katie Wood, and National Council of Teachers of English
Average review score:

Fantastic Read
This book is an excellent guide to teaching spelling in a new and more productive way. There are many concrete, useable examples and it is written in an easily comprehendable form. It is interesting, intelligent, and practical for the everyday classroom. This is obviously a compilation of many years of experience, rather than a theory that has gone untested. Hooray for educators like these who watch children and are not afraid to try new things!

Stones Cookbook: Vegetarian Recipes from Stones Restaurant
Published in Paperback by Ebury House (July, 1999)
Authors: Hilary Howard, Ebury Press, and Wood
Average review score:

Hard-to-find cookbook from a magical Restaurant.
This is the second cookbook published by the STONE'S RESTAURANT -- which opened in 1984 and is located in the city of Avebury (in the county of Wiltshire) in England.

The mysterious Avebury standing stones are located just a few miles from the more famous Stonehenge. J.R.R.Tolkein was sitting under a tree within the prehistoric Avebury standing stones when he was inspired with the concept for writing "The Hobbit" stories.

The Stone's Restaurant building is a stone barn, (once part of an Elizabethan manor), and was built within the Avebury circle of standing stones. The restaurant also has an organic garden, freshly picked produce is used in each day's menu.

This cookbook is vegetarian and the recipes taste best when you use natural and organic ingrediants. Each recipe has been developed to be visually colorful and attractive, as well as delicious. The recipes are inspired by international food traditions, yet use commonly available ingrediants.

Sample menu with a Mexican flavor:
* Chilled Avocado Soup with lime.
* Torta Mexicana (corn tortillas layered between vegetable filling and refried beans).
* Toppings of sour cream and tomato salsa.
* Cheesy zapallo succotash (spicy squash with cheese).
* Poppy seed parfait (cooked custard with poppy seeds and whipped cream).

This is a good cookbook, most of the recipes are easy to make and they turn out delicious as well as beautiful.

Storage Batteries: A General Treatise on the Physics and Chemistry of Secondary Batteries and Their Engineering Applications
Published in Textbook Binding by John Wiley & Sons (December, 1955)
Author: George Wood, Vinal
Average review score:

An absolute must for anyone interested in battery chemistry
OK, it may be over 50 years old but this book should be essential reading for anyone interested in secondary battery design, particulary lead-acid types. The first chapter starts with a great history lesson on battery development from Volta's first discoveries, over 200 years ago, and provides a great chronicle of events over the 100+ years following. Includes very detailed information on battery plate design, alloys and a breakdown of all the secondary reactions occuring within a cell. If you are researching Battery design then I would strongly recommend that you invenst in a copy of this book (if you can find one that is) after all the laws of physics (and chemistry) haven't changed in the last 50 years!
